Collection: B. H. Brody Artist Biography and Art Gallery Collection

B. H. Brody, Barbara Hammerman Brody, was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1941 and since the age of three loved color and the most colorful things she could see among the sunlight, skies and landscapes.  Known mostly for her undeniable talents as a colorist and a landscape painter, B. H. Brody's artistic passions include a wide variety of media. Whether she is creating paintings, collages, pastel drawings, designs, or writing, Brody throws herself into her work completely. Characterized largely by the use of light and gradations of color, Brody's artwork captures the beauty of nature on a canvas. As the artist explains, her work is defined by "color, color, color, coupled with surprise, timelessness, and movement, along with a certain playfulness and elegance. Summarizing B. H. Brody's works is a little more straightforward, as for the large part they tend to center on the sky, which of course stems from her first known interactions and observations of a huge, enigmatic sky as an infant. A radiance of bombastic color, coupled with extra lashings of draconian sky push a landscape into second place in the race to win a typical Brody frame. Yet having said that, her landscapes are equally as pulsating, on account of the luxury palette of color she fills every last inch of it with. There is a huge calming quality to a trademark Brody composition, which relaxes the viewer that her peers seldom achieve as the artist transports you to the fields of plenty and the glorious heaven on earth beyond. In all honesty B. H. Brody's skies kidnap a good two-thirds of the frame, which is hardly a negative when confronted with such instantaneously dynamic reds, yellows and blues that conspire to give each painting such a bottomless pit when it comes to perceived depth.

B. H. Brody is a contemporary colorist inspired by landscape. She is an accomplished painter, photographer, and designer who also creates complex collages. Her artistic inspiration and passion are linked to a love for the expansive Mid-Western sky and rolling hills where she once lived. Today, this love of the sky and land is fulfilled in rural Pennsylvania. A purposeful selection of basic natural subjects allows her space for an explosive palette fueled by years of absorbing and experimenting with color. Her work shows an intensely bold and dramatic employment of color, providing a playful and gratifying experience to viewers. As a child, color, light and landscape fascinated her. At the age of 21 Hammerman Brody started exhibiting and selling her art in galleries. Her artwork sells vigorously in the United States and internationally. Private collectors and large corporations acquire Hammerman Brody,s artwork: Quaker Oats, Hyatt International, MCI, and Maytag to name a few. She is a recipient of numerous national and regional awards. Decades of solo and group exhibitions have brought her work to a responsive international audience. B. Hammerman Brody was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended the University of Iowa and The Los Angeles Art Center School, where she majored in design and fine art. Now living and working in the lush countryside of southern Pennsylvania, she is the mother of two sons, who are both immersed in writing and film production out West.
