Phil Jimenez Artist Biography and Art Gallery Collection
Phil Jimenez is an American comic book artist and writerwas born and raised in Los Angeles on July 12, 1970 and later Orange County, California. He moved to New York City to attend college at the School of Visual Arts, where he majored in cartooning. He is best known for his work as writer/artist on Wonder Woman from 2000 to 2003, as one of the five pencilers of the 2005-2006 miniseries Infinite Crisis, and his collaborations with writer Grant Morrison on New X-Men and The Invisibles. With the talent that Phil Jimenez was already born with and the techniques that he had learned, Phil began submitting his artwork to DC. Three weeks after dropping out of school, he got the call that would change his life; DC comics wanted him to come work for them. Neal Pozner hired him to do a two-part Cyborg story in Showcase, after that Phil was asked to help ink a four pages for George Perez’s War of the Gods #4. Considering that George Perez is one of Phil’s biggest inspirations, and once Phil’s work got to the fans, they could immediately see the Perez in Phil. Neal would play an important part in Phil’s life and teach him many things Initially working for DC Comics he is also known for his work on various titles for DC Entertainment's "mature readers" imprint, including Swamp Thing and Phil Jimenez's own creator owned series, the scifi/fantasy Otherworld.
Phil Jimenez, in 2003, drew several story arcs of Morrison's popular X-Men run. He signed an exclusive contract with Marvel in 2007. He was one of the four artists working on Marvel's flagship title, The Amazing Spider-Man, the company's sole Spider-Man title, in which Marvel upped its frequency of publication to three issues monthly, and inaugurated the series with the "back to basics" story arc "Brand New Day" at the beginning of 2008. His first work on Spider-Man was in the Free Comic Book Day 2007: Spider-Man #1 (June 2007) comic book, with writer Dan Slott, which served as a prelude to "Brand New Day". During his run, Jimenez drew the cover for The Amazing Spider-Man #583, featuring Barack Obama. Since then, he has been one of four artists working on "Amazing Spider-Man" and he has also worked on various X-Men titles. Jimenez provided sketches seen in the 2002 superhero film Spider-Man. In scenes in which Peter Parker, played by Tobey Maguire, is seen creating sketches of his costume, the close-ups of his hands are actually those of Jimenez. In 2003, Jimenez drew several story arcs of Morrison's popular New X-Men run. On January 11th, 2010, DC announced they had signed Jimenez to an exclusive contract. His first assignment would be drawing the Legion of Super Heroes within the pages of Adventure Comics. The artwork of Phil Jimenenz is currently credited in 502 separate comic book issues
