Collection: Lithocel Definition and Art Gallery Collection

Lithocel, or Lithograph Celluloid, is an animation cel that is reproduced using using a mechanical process, lithography, to apply individual artists create a hand-inked, hand-painted color model of animated characters, which is then transferred to the acetate cel. Sometimes Animation Cels are not used for actual production work, but may be a "special" or "limited edition" version of the artwork. Unlike Sericels, a Lithocel doesn't have a separate full color background. Also, as a rule, they are valued more than a Sericel because the edition size is much smaller than that of a Sericel and each individual Lithocel is numbered.
