Leonardo Manco Artist Biography and Art Gallery Collection
Leonardo Manco, born December 16, 1971 in Buenos Aires, is an Argentine Comic Book Artist and Penciller who is best known for his dark and gritty style on such titles as Hellstorm, Blaze of Glory, Apache Skies, Deathlok Vol.3 and Hellblazer. Other work by Manco has included Archangel #1 (1996), Werewolf By Night Vol.2 #1-6 (1998), Doom #1-3 (2000) and Doom: The Emperor Returns #1-3 (2002). Leonardo Manco has been working in mainstream comics since the mid 1990's, doing most of his work for Marvel and DC Comics. After a string of short lived, but highly acclaimed, and quickly cancelled titles throughout the mid to late 90's, it seemed that Manco was relegated to doing the art chores on forgettable one off specials and fill in issues for Marvel and DC Comics, with the occasional project for Acclaim. Years later, in 2004, he was the artist on an original graphic novel titled Hellblazer: All His Engines, written by Mike Carey, and suddenly everyone took notice. Leonardo Manco received even more notice when he was signed to a two-year exclusive contract with DC Comics as the ongoing artist for DC Comics Hellblazer series; illustrating almost all of Mike Carey's long run and sticking with the title through the following runs of Denise Mina and Andy Diggle as well.
Leonard Manco, in 2008, went back to working for Marvel Comics as an inker, penciller and cover artist. Jokingly dubbed "The Mad Argentinian" by his early Marvel collaborator Warren Ellis, Manco has worked on titles such as: Hellstorm, Druid, Deathlok, Werewolf by Night and his new cushy gig at Marvel; War Machine. He has also worked on such Marvel titles as War Machine and Druid. Predominantly a penciler, Manco did once experiment with fully painted artwork for the Marvel Max limited series Apache Skies. He is the artist on the War Machine series from Marvel Comics. The artwork of Leonardo Manco is currently credited in 245 separate Comic Book issues.
