Collection: Mike Deodato Artist Biography and Art Gallery Collection

Mike Deodato, sometimes credited as Mike Deodato Jr., is a Brazilian comic book artist born Deodato Taumaturgo Borges Filhoon May, 23 1963 in Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil. His father, also a Brazilian comic book artist, inspired Deodato's lifelong love of comics and guided his son's artistic development. A professional artist since 1985, Deodato often collaborated with his father on comics in a wide variety of genres.  He has become an enduring fan favorite, working in styles ranging from wildly energetic cartooning to moody photo-realism. One of the first works of Mike Deodato was a 1993 photo-realistic, highly reminiscent of Jim Lee, comic book adaptation of the television series Beauty and the Beast published by Innovation Publishing. Always a fan of American comics, Deodato broke into the U.S. market with projects like Malibu's Santa Claws and Innovation's Beauty and the Beast. Deodato became famous in the North American comic book industry for his work with writer William Messner-Loebs on Wonder Woman for DC Comics. After his Wonder Woman project he had a short stint as the penciller of The Mighty Thor, where Mike Deodato worked with writer Warren Ellis, and later drew Glory for Rob Liefeld's Extreme Studios at Image Comics and Maximum Press.

Mike Deodato soon became one of the decade's most prolific and in-demand artists, including Marvel Comics credits such as Avengers, Elektra, Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man and Thor. His first work with this new artistic identity was The Incredible Hulk, written by Bruce Jones. Since then, he has worked on the Doctor Strange spin off Witches and became the regular drawer of The Amazing Spider-Man and The New Avengers. Deodato then took over as regular drawer for the Marvel title Thunderbolts with issue 110, once again collaborating with Warren Ellis.  Deodato then became the regular artist for the Dark Avengers ongoing series which came out of the conclusion of Secret Invasion. With writer Ed Brubaker, he launched the ongoing series Secret Avengers in May 2010, before returning to New Avengers. Gradually feeling overexposed and overextended, he cut back on his workload and reinvented his art again, crafting a darker, more detailed, more personally satisfying style. After trying out this new look in a Nightcrawler story for X-Men Unlimited, Deodato landed one of his favorite assignments to date, collaborating with writer Bruce Jones on Incredible Hulk. Subsequent assignments for the currently Marvel-exclusive artist have included Witches, New Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man, Thunderbolts and his latest ongoing series, Wolverine: Origins. The artwork of Mike Deodato is currently credited in 9744 separate Comic Book issues.
