Tennessee Loveless Artist Biography and Gallery Collection

Collection: Tennessee Loveless Artist Biography and Gallery Collection

Tennessee Loveless is a Chicago based Pop/Op artist, whose work drips with irony, considering the fact that he is severely colorblind. He understands hues from a pigment and formulaic concept, often making choices based on the fundamentals of color theory, word association of the color, and color psychology, rather than the actual color itself. Tennessee Loveless's choices are mathematical and planned out through precise composition, so that he can communicate the beauty of the one thing to which he is blind. As a child growing up in Marietta, Georgia, he watched his peers identify and collect information based on this “invisible force” that people called color. He began to work within two worlds, one that operated in his own vision and perception and the other which he created in his attempts to relate to the rest of the world. This disconnect later ruptured a fascination with the unknown and Tennessee Loveless began to feverishly occupy his mind with the fundamental understanding of a chromatic world.

An art gypsy of sorts, Tennessee Loveless has been an artist in residence in San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Las Vegas (with the “Loveless Collective” Pop up gallery in 2014), Chicago, Paris, Berlin, and Athens, Georgia. He has also toured the world as part of creating his 10x10x10 series. Tennessee was named one of the “People of the Year” from Instinct Magazine, was also “Best of Sacramento” in Sactown Magazine, was the featured artist for the 2015 winter color issue in Anthology Magazine, created a shoe line with SUPA at Nordstroms, and was accepted in the running for The Smithsonian’s SARF fellowship. He has been in licensing and production development for the Walt Disney Company, helping facilitate successful health and beauty products with MAC, Johnson & Johnson, P&G, and Urban Decay. He has created officially licensed art for both Disney and Warner Brothers. Most notably his recent 10x10x10 series, (based on one hundred silhouettes of Mickey Mouse that express an artist’s journey, exploring the history of the icon, while bringing global, societal, and personal context) has been published by Disney Publishing (“The Art of Tennessee Loveless, The Mickey Mouse 10x10x10 Contemporary Pop Art Series”,)

Tennessee Loveless was named one of the “People of the Year” from Instinct Magazine, and “Best of Sacramento” in Sactown Magazine. In 2018 Tennessee completed his Washington DC based project entitled "Art Outsiders", and launched two successful socio-graphical art projects titled "Drag Landscapes" and "Know Where" in Paris, Madrid, Dublin, Sydney, and Chicago. Currently he is celebrating the launch of his new company "Loveless International" out in Shanghai and Hong Kong which focuses on co-branding his iconic IP with apparel, housewares, and mid-tier market accessories. In 2016, Tennessee will be the official artist for the Summer Olympics with SpeedoUSA creating swimwear designs for Brazil and USA, and he is celebrating the release of his first retrospective book, which will entail the entirety of his work thus far.
