Francis Tsai was an American comic book artist, illustrator, author and conceptual artist born April 14, 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1996 he joined Presto Studios as Conceptual Designer where he provided visual development and game design for the video games Myst 3, and Star Trek: Hidden Evil. In 2003, Tsai joined High Moon Studios where he was principal concept artist for the video games The Bourne Conspiracy and Darkwatch. He also illustrated cards for the Magic: The Gathering collectible card game. Francis Tsai was working on a five-issue graphic novel miniseries called Tracker for Top Cow Productions. He also contributed covers and interior art for Marvel Comics, where he provided interior artwork for Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology as well as covers and interior artwork for the serialized graphic novel Mercy Thompson: Homecoming, which reached number eight on the Comics Bestsellers list in October 2009. While at Marvel Comics he also did the artwork for covers on various Spider-Man, Iron Man and Marvel Comics Presents. In 2010 Tsai was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease. It is evident in Francis Tsai’s work that he loved science fiction, textures, and graphic shapes. What isn’t obvious is that he drew using only his eyes in his final years. The disease cost him his life on April 23, 2015. The artwork of Francis Tsai is credited in 39 separate comic book issues.
