Roger Cruz is a Brazilian Comic Book Artist, born Rogério da Cruz Kuroda on February 22, 1971, in São Paulo, Brazil. Cruz has acknowledged he is a self taught artist who learned to draw primarily by copying from other pencillers in American Comic Books. He started his professional career as a letterer for a Brazilian publishing house Editora Abril translating American Comic Books from English to Portuguese. From there Roger Cruz worked as a writer and art assistant for a short-lived black and white comics magazine titled Mil Peligros. When Art and Comics Studio first introduced Brazilian artists to the American comic book market, he was given the opportunity to work as an artist for Marvel Comics where he drew the first X-Men , the best selling title by Marvel Comics. In the nearly twenty years of career, he has designed X-Men, X-Men Alpha, X-Men Omega, Generation X, X-Man, X-Factor, X-Patrol, Magneto, X-Men First Class, Alpha Flight, Darkness , 10th Muse, Araña, Youngblood, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Hulk, Huntress, among many others. Roger Cruz also worked for DC Comics, where he provided art for one issue of the comic book Batman Chronicles.
Roger Cruz took a break from working on comic books at the end 1990's and returned to Brazil, where he became one of the founders and partners of an art studio/school in Brazil called Fábrica de Quadrinhos (Comic Book Factory). While still an active partner in Fábrica de Quadrinhos, he returned to work for the American market, contributing to Marvel titles such as Darkness, Ascension, X-Men, Wolverine, and Magneto: Dark Seduction. Cruz also worked as a storyboard designer for advertising agencies, a character designer for TV shows, and an art teacher, and gave a two-year course of lectures and workshops in universities.In 1999 Roger Cruz gave up his projects in Fábrica de Quadrinhos and turned back to work exclusively with comics. In 2002, negotiated by Art & Comics Studio, he illustrated issues of Wonder Woman. Since 2004, he has been working for Marvel once again, as the artist on Amazing Fantasy and X-Men: First Class. In Brazil, he published SHAMPOO Lovely Losers, nominated HQMIX trophy in three categories: best album, best screenwriter and best designer. In 2011, 2012 and 2013, launched respectively Nudes In Fury, Roger Cruz Artbook Vol. 1 and Sketchbook Experience Roger Cruz. In 2014, devised and wrote the script Quaisqualigundum, HQ awarded the HQMIX in 2015. Roger Cruz is currently credited with some or all of the artwork in 244 separate Comic Book issues.
