Jay Anacleto Artist Biography and Art Gallery Collection
Jay Anacleto or Efren Anacleto is a Filipino comic book artist who has worked for Image, DC and Marvel Comics. He is best known for his highly detailed and photo-realistic pencil work on 'Aria' for Image Comics. His most notable Marvel Comics work is from the 'Marvels: Eye of the Camera' series. After having finished his studies of dentistry, during which he spent his spare time drawing, Jay Anacleto decided to find his way into the world of comics. Encouraged by Leinil Francis Yu, also of the Philippines, he made contact with comic book artist Brian Haberlin, who had just left Signal Cow and found Avalon studios. Brian Haberlin proposed a project to him that he and comic book writer Brian Holguin had invented. Thus in 1999 was born Aria, a comic book metaseries published by Image Comics. Its central concept is that mythic beings exist in the modern world, a premise seen in numerous works of dark contemporary fantasy comics before. There have been several Aria miniseries written over the course of 1999–2003, which have been collected in trade paperbacks. Creating an original framework of presenting a story in the medium of comic paperbacks, and the quality of the drawings of Jay Anacleto, made the first book a strong success. Jay was also the penciler on Athena Inc -The Beginning, and he astonished once again. As for the dialogues, they are not in bubbles but rather within frameworks independent of the images, which float in the medium of the boxes. This number was followed a few months later of a limited series entitled Athena Inc - The Manhunter project in 2002, which was it's last.. The contributing artwork of Jay Anacleto is currently credited in 178 separate comic book issues.
