Collection: Charles Lynn Bragg Artist Biography and Art Gallery Collection

Charles (Chick) Lynn Bragg, a Los Angeles based artist, was born in 1952. His parents are professional artists (Charles Bragg and Jennie Tomao) and they began his training at an early age. Over the next 40+ years, he studied at the California Institute of the Arts (1974-5), UCLA extension, Otis School of Art and Design, other Southern California universities, private lessons with artists in the USA, Italy, and Japan. He is currently a full time student in the BFA Sculpture program at California State University, Long Beach. He is best known for his compassionate environmental and marine images of animals and our planet. In 1994 he designed four U. S. postage stamps, "Wonders of the Sea", and Turner Publishing reproduced his work in the book "WILD LIVES, The Animal Kingdom of Charles Lynn Bragg". His images have been seen in galleries, corporate offices, logos, conservation groups, zoos, toy stores, and jewelry stores in the USA, Europe, Japan, and Australia on a multitude of products. He describes his style as "Realism, Surrealism, Fantasy, Humanism, with a touch of Disney."  He is an accomplished draftsman, painter, print maker (etchings, stone and plate lithographs, serigraphs, monoprints, and computer giclees), photographer, stone carver, clay and wax modeler, bronze and metal sculptor, and mixed media artist. Charles Lynn Bragg has a prolific past, currently twenty plus works in progress, and scores of sketches for future projects.

Charles Lynn Bragg's work could range in size from objects that would fit in the palm of your hand to colossal stone carvings and monumental constructions. With a clear reverence for the masters of the past, Charles Lynn Bragg creates pieces that exude originality.  After studying at the University of California, Los Angeles, Pierce College, and Los Angeles City College, Chick spent his time painting wildlife, abstract, and surrealist paintings. He focused on expressing his concerns about the planet, the environment, and conservationism through his artistic skills; Chick explained that "I want to make a point, but I want people to enjoy the art at the same time." He has also begun to create in the style of his father, producing beautiful, delicate, and detailed etchings that carry his own mark as well as some of his family's inherent talents. Chick has taught various media, including computer graphics, painting, lithography, and etching and he continues to create remarkable artwork in all these fields and more. His work can be found in both private and public collections worldwide, as well as in magazines and conservation campaigns.

Charles Lynn Bragg is currently working on a series of paintings that are based on famous and infamous paintings throughout art history, such as Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”, Dali’s “The Persistence of Memory” and Edvard Munch’s “The Scream”. Bragg remakes the original works and gives them his 21st century global makeover. Each chosen image is copied meticulously to be as close to the original painting as possible, but Bragg then adds something that is slightly askew, new, and close to his heart. These images ultimately remind us of our own human nature and elevates the Earth in our hearts.
