Dan Mackin Artist Biography and Art Gallery Collection
Dan Mackin is an American artist born and raised in Southern California, whose earliest art impulses were influenced by his travel to Asia in the military in 1969. From 1971 to 1973 he sailed a small boat to Central America during which he lost his camera overboard and started recording his travels by drawing and painting scenes. Dan Mackin has always had a fascination with tropical foliage and water. This, coupled with his great enjoyment creating art that led him into the art profession. In 1992 he began devoting his full attention to painting, and since then Dan Mackin has commanded $4,000 to $18,000 per original, as well as releasing fine art limited editions lithographs and giclee print editions.
Dan Mackin loves seeing a blank canvas transform into a window of paradise that before was only a thought. His aim is to communicate a sense of being in paradise when you see tropical water you feel excited and tranquil at the same time. The artwork of Dan Mackin is collected by various entertainment and sports celebrities, and appears in the collections of the International Herald Tribune, Sheraton Resorts, and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. He has exhibited at the Tampa Bay Aquarium, Wyland Gallery Shows, and many other art gallery exhibitions throughout the U.S.
Dan Mackin, as an award winning artist, has done commissions for many corporations and individuals. They include The International Herald Tribune, the Ron Jon/National Kidney Foundation Pro-Am Surfing Festival, the Quicksilver Wiamea Bay Contest poster. The Cleveland Clinic, The Sheraton Waikiki, The Maui Convention Center , The South Miami Chamber of Commerce and the Sandals Resort in Antigua. He also designed the label for Shoal Draft, a micro brew made by the Indian River Brewing Company and many of his images appear on greeting cards, jewelry, stationery, magazine covers and calendars. His paintings can be seen in homes throughout the world. Some individuals who have commissioned him are football players: Andre Reed and Brad Culpeper, and entertainer, Arsenio Hall.
To quote the artist Dan Mackin describing his artwork: “Everyone, at some time in their life, yearns to find their own peaceful paradise and escape from the demands of today’s hectic world. In my work I try to offer the viewers a window to their own tropical paradise. My paintings embody my desire to preserve Earth’s fragile beauty and to encourage the harmony that should exist between people and nature.”
