This truly wonderful collector's item from America's animation pop culture will bring cheer to fans of both past and present. Chilly Willy is a cartoon character, a diminutive anthropomorphic penguin living in Alaska (although, in reality, the species is native only to the southern hemisphere). created by Paul J. Smith for the Walter Lantz Studio in 1953. The character Chilly Willy soon became the second most popular Lantz/Universal character, behind Woody Woodpecker. The initial version of Chilly Willy resembled Woody Woodpecker, except with flippers and black feathers, but he was redesigned in to his more familiar form in subsequent cartoons. Tex Avery revived the character Chilly Willy for two of his most notable shorts, Cold and the Academy Award nominated The Legend of Rockabye Point.
